Mothman

A tall, dark, winged creature whose presence is said to signal impending tragedy!

The area around Point Pleasant, West Virginia is most well-known for finding itself the unwilling host of a peculiar entity back in 1966... the infamous Mothman! The fuzzy angelic humanoid is said to have been seen by at least 100 people in the area, with its reflective red eyes being spotted lurking around homes, within the nearby abandoned TNT plant, and even chasing a couple's car! Spooky stuff. The Mothman's presence in the town was even theorized to be linked to electrical disturbances, UFOs, and the Men in Black. More than a year after the initial appearance of the Mothman, tragedy struck Point Pleasant. The Silver Bridge, which stretched across the Ohio River, collapsed during rush hour one fateful December evening, resulting in the deaths of 46 people. On that same night, the sightings of the Mothman around Point Pleasant came to a sudden stop.

Did the Mothman cause the bridge collapse, or did his presence simply foretell it like the call of a whip-poor-will? Where did he come from and where did he go?

As it turns out, all over the place! The fuzzy fellow has been seen across the world ever since the original tales from Point Pleasant, a few notable locations being Chernobyl preceding the nuclear disaster, Bleakstown before the chemical spill and, most recently, during Glass Basin's chain of mine collapses. Of course those hardly scratch the surface of all the reported Mothman appearances, but they are some of the few examples with evidence on par with that behind his origins in Point Pleasant.

There's a lot of fear and blame surrounding the Mothman, but I like to believe that he's just misunderstood! Perhaps a guardian angel trying his best to warn us of impending doom... Plus, his description sounds kinda cute. That said, if you DO ever see him, I'd get the heck outta town ASAP!
