Rapture in New York
Rapture in New York, or the Heaven Stairway Incident, is a series of hoax images claimed to be from 2021, with the most prominent showing bodies floating into the air in New York City.
The images spread in popularity from a webpage called heavenstairwaynyc.com, which went live in mid-2008 but went relatively unnoticed until recently.
The page gives an indepth account of supposed events that occur on May 28th, 2021 in a similar writing style to common chain letters. It's meant to convey urgency and terror, coaxing the reader into believing that they have to prepare for the apocalypse. As of May 21st, 2009, the page is still up.
The page starts by expositing the incident, prefaced by large red "URGENT" text. For unknown reasons, rain everywhere begins having an elevating effect on living things. The phenomenon originates in New York City on the previous date and without warning, causing countless people on their morning commute to rise into the sky. After the rain stops, the victims begin splatting down on the streets below, their faces contorted into strange, inhuman grins. The page elaborates more on this later on.
Only one person survived direct contact with the rain during the initial incident, on account of managing to grip tightly to a street lamp. All the fat was stripped from their body, leaving them deflated and gored on the streets. They were recovered and given state of the art medical treatment in order to find answers, but the lack of a grin suggested that the transformation only occurred in the clouds. Thankfully, the webpage doesn't treat you to images of the survivor.
It then moves on to mention the case of a plane that was flying over the city when the incident occurred. It's accompanied by a photo of the plane after landing, showing blood coating the engine and cockpit. A censored body is lying in front of it. A supposed testimonial from the pilot is given, with only the crew and one girl surviving the ordeal. The rest of the passengers, save for one that went missing, were all comatose.
The surviving girl claimed to have seen something outside a window during the chaos, to which several drawings she supposedly made are shown, showcasing a gigantic grotesque face staring from the skyscrapers as well as in front of some sort of red threshold. The page heavily implies this to be a Basilisk as a sort of final twist to its constructed narrative.
This one is pretty obviously fake. I mean, some of the bodies in the first image are blatantly copies of eachother. It's a fun story, and the images are interesting, but it's just too much outlandish detail to be remotely believable. This is the kind of thing your grandma forwards you in a panic.
For whatever reason, ParanormalPrickheads' favourite oddity- Icecreamonkeyfan- is obsessed with this page and even pretends to be part of it. His video is linked below.
