The Hat Man

Hats off to the man of our dreams!

Deep in the night while your eyes wander wildly behind their lids and your mind conjures fleeting fantastical stories, your dreamscape may become host to a particularly infamous invader; the Hat Man. His appearance is about what you'd expect from the name, a shadowy figure most readily defined by the wide-brimmed hat atop his head. Any other features are often too difficult to make out, though a few people have claimed to notice that he also wears a bowtie. Classy!

It's worth noting that I've heard that he doesn't just appear in dreams, but also sometimes during near-death experiences. While neither of those circumstances sound particularly pleasant to see a spooky hatted fellow in, the Hat Man's physical presence in either case comes across as surprisingly non-threatening.

Though often associated with and difficult to discern from Shadow People on looks alone, the Hat Man is unique from them due to the fact that he is capable of speech. This quality defines him almost as much as his headwear. The words he relays also betray his otherwise non-intimidating appearance, usually focused on the topic of some sort of coming apocalypse.

Are these descriptions warnings from him, threats, or something else? Is he a ghost or demon linked to lower states of consciousness? A time traveler trapped on another plane of reality? There surely must be a reason behind his appearances considering how widespread the reports of his intrusions are, but it's hard to know his intentions.

What about you? Have you ever met this man in your dreams? I have.
